At-Risk Girls...

“If you have sex with a virgin then you will be cleansed from AIDS” - what devastating consequences this has had on the young girls of Zambia! At the moment, billboards around the city feature a young girl proclaiming “Having sex with me doesn’t cure AIDS”. Drastic measures are being taken to re-educate... but it has come too late for some. Many girls live with the scars of abuse and, most times, are shunned from their families. Some end up in the Orphanages while others end up on the street - where they are at an even greater risk often being 'taken in' and used to sell sex by gangs or adults in the sex industry.

Our aim is to see these girls intercepted and cared for in a secure environment. They will be given care, education and a hope for a brighter future - before they end up on the streets.  In keeping with the culture they will be primarily cared for by local Zambian women. They will be taught home-skills and childcare - preparing them for adult life within local communities. Interaction with the babies will build confidence and provide them with an outlet to care and nurture as they would siblings.
